wiki, & political documents

The ever-industrious sen no sen posts about the EU Constitution that has been put up online, ready for wiki annotation. (For those that don’t know, a wiki is an online document that is editable, realtime, either by anyone at all or by selected people). This project was started by betageek.

Now this seems to me another wonderful application of the wiki. All governement documents of consequence (eg NAFTA, WIPO Copyright Treaty) should be put online in this format, and let the hackers at it. Governments obviously won’t do this, so it’s up to “us.” What could come of such project? Probably a big mess and lots of chaos, but it would be a serious and important way to get people engaged with these bits of papers that have such huge implications for our lives.

On a large-scale, right now maybe this is an impossible tool for actually crafting anything useful, but perhaps at the neighbourhood, and municipal level it could be workable? For instance in drafting plans for, say, a park, or greenspace, or zoing laws on a street. Or a wifi action plan for a town. Etc.

  1. Hi,

I’ve got a RSS feed scraping the bills on each day’s agenda in the Senate and House of Commons. They’re on vacation until the end of January, but this is what it used to look like, well, almost.

I’m not providing the feed at the moment since there’s no point, but I’ll release/announce it a few days before they resume their activities. There is sooo much to do!

Do you know Digital Copyright Canada ?

  2. hey robin, great project! now i have a request, can you write up a script that either:

    a) adds 4 hours to each day, or
    b) reduces my need for sleep by 4 hours

either option will be fine, and I will be happy to pay for it though maybe we could release under a CC license.

Yes, have checked out Digital Copyright Canada…but not gone too far with them yet. Had a brief email exchange also with the guy who runs it; will check in with them again soon.
PS atwater project coming along, some ideas to make more public soon!

    cheers, hugh.

  3. Easy enough, but you’ll lose a day a week. Einstein needed 12 hours to be top shape. Or maybe you could try my schedule, but I wouldn’t recommend it…
Can’t wait to hear what you have in store :)
    P.S.: you know Suw ?
