Welcome to new readers! If you are looking for CanWest’s new magazine/online journal/mobile portal, you’ve come to the wrong place. You can find that mag here: Dose.ca. But if you don’t believe in “wrong places,” then feel free to peruse the original & still very tasty dosemagazine. Unlike the other guys, I haven’t set out to, “Give you hundreds of ideas and tools to make your life better, and different, including an amazing local search, music channel and daily listings and reviews.” Though you may get a couple of ideas here, possibly some tools, but definitely no amazing searches or music. I do do book reviews, however, and you can find them here. And I guess, in my own little ways, I will join these young upstarts in their efforts to “celebrate our cities and … help you do the same.” I haven’t done much writing writing on this blog of late, but check, if you are interested the More about me section, and the list of “best ofs,” found here.

For the record, dose magazine (the original) was an idea cooked up in spring 2002 over too much coffee at Open Da Night with a photographer friend of mine (Ewa) and another impressario pal (Brennan). But I was focused on finishing a 1st draft of a novel–still at it, wow–and Ewa moved to Vienna, so nothing much came of it. I kept the name though, as well as dosemagazine.com, and, just three short years later this weblog was born. Then came the new guys, oh well.

And here, for the digital archaeologists of oddities among you, are the first and second attempts at photoshopping an original dosemagazine cover, way back in 2002. (I know they’re kinda cheeseball, but we were just fooling around a bit to see what two non photo-shoppers could come up with quick). I believe these were Ewa’s first attempts at photoshopping. The issue never got printed, by the way.

Anyway good luck to the new Dose (but maybe you guys should consider getting that website cleaned up - it looks a bit clunky. In fact it looks really clunky, sorry to say).

PS, CanWest apparently is planning on losing $6 million this year with Dose.ca … I could lose a tenth of that for them, no problem, a hundreth even, and they wouldn’t have had to go to the trouble of launching a whole new magazine. Ah well, lost opportunities.
