maffin, cbc, podcasts

Tod Maffin, talks about CBC Radio’s podcast plans on yet another great IT conversations segment. Maffin is host of the CBC program (one of 5 currently podcasted by CBC), /nerd.

Maffin is also pulling for a cool new radio show on CBC, to be called The Feed which would broadcast the best in Canadian (?) podcasting over old fashioned radio waves once a week. Now that’s coming a pretty good cricle, wouldn’t you say? After all the delivery mechanism itself is irrelevant, what’s important is content and availability. Find out how to help get The feed on the air: here.

What puzzles me is that the CBC is moving so slowly on podcasts … Is it a storgae problem? Bandwidth? But the good news is that they’ve upped their podcast numbers, now feeding four (five?) shows (compared with two when I first noted CBC’s move to the bleeding edge of last year). But I’m still waiting for: Ideas, Wiretap, Brave New Waves, and Writers and Company.

Tod Maffin is quickly ratcheting up points in my book, here’s another great service to the world provided on his personal site: a list of public broadcasting podcasts, which he calls pubcasts (? hmm…) organized by topic. Note they’re not all public broadcasts, there’s some commercial stuff there too. Anyway: Damn straight! This is what I’m talking about, gimme the content I want, when I want it!

And as if Mr. Maffin hadn’t already made my day, here another useful tool I’ve been looking for, a directory of Canadian podcasts. Though I note a misspell: Sylvain’s occasional, but very good, Le Frog Show, is listed as “Le Freak Show”!

The future is brewing nicely! I may never have to listen to Radio Noon again!
