climate again
sorry to belabour this climate point… but: we have seen rain falling in December in Montreal for years now - I recall rainy Christmases from my childhood, starting around age 12 (that be 1986). But never, in my recollection, has there been thunder in the winter in Montreal. Until today.

I think La Nina/El Nino is more likely to be the cause of this than the global climate change you’re implying.
Btw, it’s exactly this type of rationalization that I have a hard time accepting from climate change advocates. “OMG It’s raining in december it must be global warming!@!@!@!” :-)

i agree. individual weather events are a bad proxy for general climate change. not to mention that my short life (32 years) is hardly a useful measure of climate change, which happens on an almost geological time scale. (at least on 100s, and 1000s of years, and big swings on a 100ky scale).
but this is not a rationalization, just a comment: see below for full my full discussion of climate change.
also, tho true that no one event can be pointed to as “proof” of climate change, when these events fall into a general pattern across the world, then it’s worth noting.
For instance, the warmest years in the past 120 years are, in order of warmness: 2005, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2004.
so there isnt any doubt that we are in a period of intense warming. the question is why.
(ps is it an El Nino/La Nina year?)
